More about Bingin

Bingin is a left-hand reef break on the Bukit Peninsula known for producing tight, barreling waves over shallow, sharp reef. Best conditions arrive with southwest swell and east winds, typically reaching 2 to 2.5 meters at peak swells. Mid-tide offers the most manageable conditions for barrels; low tide produces intense, short-lived waves with significant hazards from the shallow, unforgiving reef. High tide works but generates a strong rip current. Hazards include sea urchins, submerged rocks, and sharp coral that can inflict cuts, particularly at low tide.

Bingin emerged as a documented surf spot during the 1970s wave of global exploration, when adventurous travelers first mapped the Bukit Peninsula's western-facing reef breaks. The spot has hosted the Hurley Boardriders competition, a multi-division event featuring family, junior, and pro categories. However, detailed records of individual surfers or specific historic sessions at the break remain limited in publicly available sources.

Access to Bingin requires a private vehicle or rental; no public transport reaches this remote coastal area. From a paid cliff-top parking lot (5,000–10,000 IDR depending on vehicle type), surfers descend a 10-minute stairway through a small neighborhood past hotels and restaurants to reach the beach. The spot lies roughly 20 kilometers south of Denpasar airport on the Bukit Peninsula, near Pecatu.
