More about Betty's Bay

Betty's Bay is a sheltered peaky beach break receiving consistent distant south-swell groundswells, best when north-northwest winds hold offshore. The break works at most tide stages, though a rising tide offers cleaner conditions. Wave size ranges from 1–1.5 metres in small swells up to over 4 metres during larger southern groundswell events. Though primarily intermediate terrain, the break tends toward dumpers typical of sand-bottomed beach breaks. Winter brings the most reliable conditions, with June being the peak month for consistent waves. Hazards include rocks scattered in the lineup and exposed volcanic rock formations along the shore.

Betty's Bay is located 100 kilometres south of Cape Town between Pringle Bay and Kleinmond, sitting beneath the Kogelberg Mountains. The town itself is named after Betty Youlden, daughter of the area's first developer. I found no published records of notable surfing history—competitions, championship sessions, or surfers particularly associated with the spot—within available sources.

Main Beach and Silver Sands are the two primary surf access points, with Main Beach offering free parking (though limited) and basic facilities including restrooms and outdoor showers. The beaches are backed by dramatic mountain scenery and white sand, making it a scenic destination that manages to avoid serious crowding despite regular local use.
