More about Benaulim Beach

Benaulim Beach is a sand-bottom beach break that works sporadically as an exposed break with both left and right-hand waves. It typically produces mellow, chest-high surf suited to intermediate surfers rather than advanced wave hunters. Southwest swell combined with east-northeast wind creates the most reliable conditions, with the best window occurring during the November-to-January winter season when clean, surfable waves appear roughly half the time; the break remains blown out or too small for much of the year. Rips and undertow are the primary hazards.

The break remains relatively uncrowded even during working swells. South Goa's emerging surf community has grown in recent years, though specific historical records of surfing development at Benaulim—when it was first surfed, notable sessions, or competitions held there—do not appear to be documented.

Benaulim sits roughly six kilometers south of Margao in South Goa, within easy reach of the regional hub.
