More about Bay Head
Bay Head is an exposed beach and jetty break shaped by shifting sandbars that produce hollow, bareling waves when conditions align. The break can handle larger and longer-period swells than many other Jersey Shore spots, with right-hand waves favoring most of the time. Crowding and dangerous rip currents are consistent concerns, particularly when the spot is working well.
Best conditions develop with southeast swell directions and west offshore winds around mid tide. Summer months, especially July, see the most consistent clean waves, though the break works year-round.
Access requires beach badges available at the municipal office (532 Lake Ave); street parking only is available with limited spots and resident permit requirements in much of the borough.
