More about Barron

Barron is a point break formed by shifting sand at a river mouth, making it a changeable setup that can concentrate and organize incoming swells. It works best during summer months when southwest swells arrive at a suitable angle, particularly in August. The exposed location attracts pretty consistent waves, though the river mouth dynamics create strong rips and currents that pose hazards to paddlers.

Barron sits about 10 kilometers south of Mazatlan International Airport along the coastal highway toward Nayarit. It's a remote location where the road narrows and becomes less developed, placing it roughly 20-35 minutes from the main resort area depending on traffic. The southern positioning makes it the most distant of the Mazatlan-area breaks, requiring a deliberate trip south past the city's sportfishing district.
