More about Awang Bay
Awang Bay is a protected beach break over sand bottom in southeast Lombok's crescent-shaped bay. The waves tend to be mellow and forgiving, best suited to beginners and intermediates, with mornings typically delivering offshore winds that groom the face. The dry season from May through September brings the most consistent swell from the Indian Ocean, while the break works year-round due to the surrounding hills shielding it from strong onshore winds.
The bay sits about 800 meters from Ekas village and serves primarily as a boat access point to nearby reef breaks rather than a major destination break in its own right. While Ekas's main breaks (Inside and Outside) are well-documented, Awang Bay itself has a lower profile in the recorded surf culture of Lombok.
Getting to Awang Bay requires driving about 30 to 40 minutes southeast from Kuta to the town of Awang, then hiring a local boat for roughly a 15-minute ride across the bay. The surrounding cliffs and pristine beaches along the eastern shore provide a scenic setting, though the bay's relative remoteness means fewer facilities and crowds compared to more accessible Lombok breaks.
