More about Avoca Point

Avoca Point is a point break at the southern end of Avoca Beach that produces both left and right-hand waves, working best during low tide over a sand bottom. The break performs consistently during autumn months, particularly April, when ground swells from the east combine with offshore southwest winds, though it can miss larger winter swells that approach from too far south. Intermediate to advanced surfers find the waves challenging partly because they break very close to exposed rocks, and the point does not activate as frequently as the main beach breaks during smaller swell periods.

The Avoca Beach area has hosted regional and state-level surfing competitions, anchored by the Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club, which was established in 1929 following a drowning incident. Surfing activity at the point extends back decades as part of the Central Coast's broader surf culture, though the break tends to draw crowds on weekends when conditions align.

Avoca Point sits on the Central Coast of New South Wales, approximately 95 kilometres north of Sydney, within a locality that was originally home to the Awabakel Indigenous people before European settlement began in the 1830s. Beach access is straightforward, though the break's proximity to rocks means swimmers and surfers need awareness of tidal movements and rip currents in the area.
