More about Arashi

Arashi Bay Reef is a consistent right-hand peak that can also break left, with a coral bottom that produces waves up to double overhead in the best swells. The break stretches roughly 200 meters over the reef. It requires significant swell events—typically driven by tropical storms or cold fronts—to produce quality waves, making it a fickle and advanced spot. The ideal setup combines northwest swell with offshore easterly winds, working best at mid tide. Hazards include sharp reef, sea urchins, and rocks scattered throughout the break, with a paddle-out of 10–15 minutes using a channel on the right side of the reef.

Aruba's surfing community has developed gradually over the past two decades, with the industry locally centered around shops that emerged in the early 2000s. The island averages roughly 300 days per year with rideable conditions, particularly from March through August when consistent trade winds shape the east-facing breaks.

Arashi sits on the northern tip of Aruba near Malmok, approximately one mile south of the California Lighthouse. Free parking is available on-site with overflow along the nearby road. A beach bar serves food and drinks, and the area is accessible via public transport and local bus service.
