More about Anse Couleuvre
Anse Couleuvre is a fast, tubular right-hander breaking over a shallow reef at the foot of cliffs on Martinique's north coast near Le Prêcheur. The wave features an easy takeoff but fast, hollow following sections that often barrel. Wave height reaches up to three meters on good days. The spot operates in a narrow swell window, requiring north swell to produce rideable waves, making it selective and inconsistent. It works perhaps 20% of the time with truly surfable conditions, and only regularly receives swell during winter and spring months, with March typically offering the most consistent clean waves.
The break offers an exposed reef setting with virtually no crowd even when waves appear. Southeast winds provide offshore conditions, creating the clean faces the spot is known for. The extreme selectivity of conditions—depending entirely on north swells that are relatively rare in the Caribbean—means surfers may need multiple visits to catch it firing.
Access requires driving a winding, steep road via RN2 then CD10 toward Le Prêcheur, arriving at a small parking area that fills quickly on weekends. From the lot, a ten-minute hike through managed tropical forest leads to the beach. The site has no facilities—no water, restrooms, or food available on-site. The narrow beach is bordered by dark sand and high cliffs, creating an isolated, natural setting.
