Alnes Lighthouse (Godoy)

Alnes Lighthouse features a prominent right-hand point break over large boulders on the southwestern side at Sandvika bay, coupled with a faster left-hand wave over rocks on the southern edge. The right produces a long, peeling line that can hold substantial swell with walls sometimes reaching double overhead or larger, demanding solid technique and boulder awareness. A quicker left-hand section breaks at smaller sizes. This is an advanced break best suited to experienced surfers due to its power and bouldery bottom. Winter brings the most consistent swells, with January offering clean conditions roughly one-third of the time, though offshore southeast winds are essential for shape. Water temperature hovers around 9°C year-round, coldest in early March near 4–5°C and warmest in August around 13–14°C, necessitating thick thermal protection.

The spot lies on Godøya island about 27 kilometers from Ålesund, accessible by a 20–30 minute drive via undersea tunnels and bridges from the city center. Park at the beginning of Alnes village and walk to the lighthouse; a small free lot exists closer but the village is narrow and tight. Ferry service from Ålesund reaches Godøy in roughly twenty minutes, after which bus line 661 serves Alnes, though service is sparse.
