More about Almagreira
Almagreira works best around high tide, when multiple sand-based peaks produce both left and right waves across the break, though the left tends to offer longer rides. Watch for boils in the middle of the bay at higher tides and rocks exposed at lower water levels; the sandy bottom means the break shifts with swell and tide. Swell from the northwest works well, particularly when paired with south or southeast wind, and the spot responds to most swell directions as long as wind has southern component; strong currents can develop in bigger swells.
Location access requires driving via rough unpaved roads from Ferrel to parking on the cliff top above the beach. The remote setting means few facilities and sparse crowds compared to other Peniche peaks, with free parking available despite the erosion-prone cliff access.
