More about Algajola

Algajola is a north-facing beach break that produces both left and right-hand waves, but is marked by inconsistent swell and exposure to wind conditions. The best conditions occur during autumn and winter when southwest swell combines with offshore southeast winds; wave quality improves when swell period is strong and can hollow out considerably. Wind swells are far more common here than groundswells, which contributes to the spot's unreliability for consistent surfing. Unlike beginner-friendly characterizations, Algajola is crowded and carries hazards including strong rip currents and dangerous shorebreak during heavy swell. The spot performs best with decent swell period and is known locally as Corsica's largest-wave location, though peak season draws substantial crowds.

The beach extends for roughly 1.5 kilometers and lies between the towns of Calvi and L'Île-Rousse along Corsica's Balagne coast. Multiple camping facilities operate within walking distance of the beach, including Camping de la Plage and Locations du Ranch. A windsurfing school and rental shops operate seasonally, and the beach is lifeguard-supervised during summer months. Access is straightforward via coastal road with paid parking near the beach entrance, though spaces fill quickly during peak conditions.
