More about Agnes Water

Agnes Water is a right-hand point break favored for longboarding, with waves peeling along 50–150 metres of reef-backed coastline over a mixed sand and rock bottom. The break requires at least medium tide to work well and responds to northeast swell paired with southwest offshore wind, making it a relatively forgiving option for surfers across skill levels. Medium swell conditions are optimal; larger swells can produce powerful walls, while smaller days suit beginners and cruisers.

The point has hosted the Agnes Water Longboard Classic every March for 27 years, one of Australia's most established amateur longboarding competitions. The event began in the late 1990s as a small gathering of local and visiting longboarders and has grown to attract over 180 competitors from across the country. Zane Harrison, a former competitive surfer, established a surf school there that continues to train new generations. The wave's consistent, peeling shape has made it an enduring destination within Australian longboarding culture.

Agnes Water lies in a compact beach town near 1770 in central Queensland, approximately two hours north of Brisbane, and offers excellent camping and caravan facilities. The area experiences its best conditions from April through October during the dry season. The beach itself remains relatively uncrowded compared to better-known Australian breaks, and good parking exists near the town lookout. The spot sits close to the Great Barrier Reef, making it accessible to visitors exploring the broader central Queensland coast.
