More about Affenrucken point

Affenrucken point is a powerful left-hand point break over reef that breaks long and slow, with the capacity to handle substantial swell. The wave responds best to swells from the west and southwest, working optimally between low and mid tide on the falling tide. The best window for surfing is March through October, with April and May offering the most consistent conditions. October through April should be avoided due to shark mating season and increased seal colony presence near the point. The break is sharp and rocky, demanding caution and experience.

The remote location and extremely limited access have kept this spot from developing any documented surf history or notable sessions in accessible records. The combination of difficult terrain and security restrictions means very few surfers have had the opportunity to ride these waves.

Access to Affenrucken point is effectively closed to casual visitors. The entire area sits within the Sperrgebiet, Namibia's restricted diamond mining zone that remained sealed to outsiders for over a century. While some limited guided access through the Sperrgebiet National Park became possible after 2008, the specific point break remains on active mining property with no public right of entry. Reaching it would require either special permission from mining operations or circumventing security barriers, neither of which is realistic for touring surfers.
