More about 3Ms
3Ms is a rocky reef that produces consistent, manageable left and right-hand breaks, typically in the waist-to-shoulder-high range. The waves are relatively soft and enjoyable rather than punchy, suiting intermediate to advanced surfers on both shortboards and longboards. East to east-northeast winds are offshore, and the break responds best to west-northwest swell. A rising tide generally produces the best shape, and the wave can hold up across most of the tidal range.
Ensenada's surf scene developed after American surfers arrived in the 1960s and local pioneers like Ignacio Felix organized the region's first competitions. While those early contests were centered at San Miguel rather than 3Ms specifically, they established Ensenada as a destination that attracted surf legends from California. The spot itself has become a core break for Ensenada's established local crew, though it remains relatively uncrowded in terms of visitor traffic.
The paddle out is short, and parking sits near the break itself. A nearby fish-processing facility and cannery result in noticeably degraded water quality, a persistent local problem. Sharks patrol these waters with some frequency, and the rocky reef requires booties to protect your feet. Access is straightforward from the parking area, making it accessible year-round, with autumn and winter bringing the most consistent swell.
