Solid Surfboards is a San Diego–based shaper founded by Dan O'Hara in 2004, known for pioneering sustainable board construction through Bioflex technology. The company replaced traditional polyester resin with plant-based epoxy (40% bio-based, 1000x less toxic) and integrated hemp fiber reinforcement and recyclable EPS cores. O'Hara developed this approach after experiencing the toxicity of conventional polyester fumes, making environmental impact reduction his core design philosophy rather than a secondary feature.
