History
McCoy Surfboards is the Australian label associated with designer and shaper Geoff McCoy. In his own history, McCoy traced the opening of his first Brookvale factory to 1970, giving him a base for developing his designs. His Lazor Zap single-fins placed more outline area toward the tail and reduced it at the nose, within short, wide and thick shapes.
The later Nugget became another central design. In a site-hosted interview with George Greenough, McCoy dated his first Nugget to 1994 and described adapting the design around individual surfers rather than professional competition alone. His official history also connects the Nugget with his Loaded Dome concept. McCoy died in April 2024; the brand's website preserves his design accounts and model information.
