About

For a while now I’ve been looking to the past to create the future, and everything I love about hulls has germinated from Greenough’s revolutionary design theories. These Arctail Hulls are an attempt to walk in the footsteps of those who wanted to make a stand-up version of Greenough’s spoon and start carving for real. This design marks the trailhead for the shortboard revolution of the mid-late 1960s (check out Ted Spencer’s part in ”Innermost Limits of Pure Fun.”) These Arctails are a little wider than my round-tail hull templates at similar lengths, with the width of the tail bringing in the curve from the wide-point to the tail closer to the curve of my fish template. This straighter rail gives these short boards a more parallel outline, resulting in extended time-warp on the high line and the feeling of a longer board in a shorter and more manueverable pod. The foil of these boards follow the refined design ethos of the contemporary displacement hull: very low rocker, foiled nose and tail with volume centered over the trim chakra—classic S-deck foil with thin rail profiles for sweet flex and projection.
