History

Luke Young Shapes grew from its namesake's early boardmaking in his father's garage and garden. In a 2013 Surf Europe interview, Young described shaping mini-mals and funboards for the surf shop where he worked before establishing his own label. The maker's published production account describes a mainly hand-shaped custom-board approach, using electric planers, templates and hand tools, with APS profiling assisting heavier workloads and consistency on refined models. It also describes on-site glassing and credits Alex Manning with sanding and finishing. That workshop account appears on a page carrying a 2015 copyright, providing a dated view of the brand's craft and production methods.
