Greg Liddle is a California shaper who pioneered displacement hull surfboards beginning in 1968—round-bottomed designs with exaggerated volume forward and S-deck profiles engineered for smooth, flowing trim and speed rather than aggressive maneuvers. His boards became the vehicle for the California Soul style of surfing, particularly on point breaks like Malibu and Rincon. Though Liddle retired from shaping, his designs have been continuously reproduced and remain iconic in a school of modern surfers, including contemporary rider Dane Reynolds, who champion the hull aesthetic.
