Jon Wegener has been hand-shaping surfboards since 1987 in Southern California, specializing in Alaias—ancient Hawaiian finless wooden boards. Working alongside his brother Tom since 2005, he revived the Alaia as a modern finless craft, crafting boards primarily from Paulownia wood (a sustainable, lightweight timber that resists water absorption). Beyond Alaias, he shapes Paipos and Bellyboards, and teaches workshops on traditional wooden board construction.
