History
Flama Surf is Sergi Galanó's wooden-surfboard project in Spain. In the company's history, he traces his first wooden board to an agave build in 2009. Meeting Tom Wegener then encouraged his work with paulownia, and Flama was presented at the Salinas Longboard Festival in 2011 after two years of development.
Its two construction lines take different approaches to wood. FlamaClassic starts with a hollow wooden blank that can be shaped like a foam blank, then finished with oil or varnish. FlamaEvolve combines paulownia skins with an EPS core. Galanó describes Classic as the heavier, glide-oriented option, while Evolve aims for weight and performance closer to modern foam boards.
