History
FCD Surfboards, founded by Fletcher Chouinard (son of Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard), builds hand-shaped, durable high-performance boards in a no-frills Quonset hut in Ventura, California. The company began in the mid-1990s with a single mission: create boards strong enough to survive tropical trips without breaking, addressing Yvon's observation that professional surfers lose half their quivers on travel. Boards are constructed in-house from start to finish using strong, lightweight materials prioritized for durability alongside performance.
