History
Dutchie Surf Designs is the South African surfboard label associated with Josh 'Dutchie' Louw. Its website organizes the range into performance, all-round, alternative and classic boards, with shapes including fish, twins and midlengths. The maker describes shaping, glassing and finishing around the customer's requirements. In a 2018 interview, Louw emphasized matching the board to the individual surfer.
The business has also faced a major interruption. A BackaBuddy report published in June 2026 described a January 2 fire at the Cape Town business park where Dutchie was based, destroying tools, materials and its workspace. The report described community help with a temporary workspace and rebuilding underway at that time. The June report did not give a date for full production to resume.
