History
Dahlberg Surfboards is the Australian label associated with shaper Rod Dahlberg, whose early board-building experience began in New Zealand. His own history traces a path from reshaping old boards to a full-time job with Bob Davie, followed by years surfing and shaping around Angourie in New South Wales. He describes the point break as a testing ground for his designs.
The brand history dates Insight Surfboards, his partnership with John and Greg Webber, to 1983 and his move to the Dahlberg label to 1985. In a 2017 Surfing Life interview, Dahlberg explained hand shaping through outline, rocker and foil, rail work and finishing. That account gives the label a concrete design context: attention to how the parts of a shape fit together, with dimensions adjusted for an individual surfer.
