History
Barr Surfboards was founded by David Barr, a former professional surfer who remains in Oceanside, California. Barr competed internationally and won contests at Jeffries Bay in South Africa and Burleigh Heads in Australia, among other locations. He began shaping boards at age 16 and has built a 40-year design lineage starting with twin fins in the mid-1980s, specializing in high-performance shortboards, step-ups, and big-wave guns. His philosophy centers on the principle that shapers should actually surf if they're going to build boards.
